Help Larry Kissell stand up for America and against Robin Hayes

Nov. 29, 2006 was a sad day.  Larry Kissell conceded defeat to Robin Hayes that day.  It was the closest race in the nation with the eventual count being a difference of only 329 votes. As someone who lived in that area of North Carolina (US 8th District), I can tell you that many voters weren’t happy with the outcome and there were a few who wondered if in fact the end result was correct.  But as we voters have learned in elections since 2000, we ‘grin and bear it’.

Mr. Kissell conceded even though only 5 of the 10 counties in the district had completed the hand recount of sample precincts that he requested. He picked up 2 votes, but would have needed a total of about 10 votes to set off a full recount.

The race, which Mr. Hayes led by only 329 votes out of 121,523 cast after a machine recount last week, was one of the nation’s last unresolved elections for a House seat.  I remember that Larry Kissell stood tall with voters that day when immediately after the ‘vote count’ he announced that he would be running against Robin Hayes again this year It was better than the drama seen on most TV shows today.  He wanted no question left regarding his candidacy, he WOULD run.  Larry Kissell  isn’t the son of a millworker, but he was a  millworker who went back to school, now teaches school and works hard in his fight to take back his country.

Many voters now realize that Robin Hayes has what most see as a clear conflict of interest.  He is heavily invested and making money from the war, yet he is one of those who can vote ‘for’ the war.

A Republican congressman from North Carolina told CNN on Wednesday that the "evidence is clear" that Iraq was involved in the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001.

"Saddam Hussein and people like him were very much involved in 9/11," Rep. Robin Hayes said. Told no investigation had ever found evidence to link Saddam and 9/11, Hayes responded, "I'm sorry, but you must have looked in the wrong places."

Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, said that Saddam was a dangerous man, but when asked about Hayes' statement, would not link the deposed Iraqi ruler to the terrorist attacks on New York, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania.

"I haven't seen compelling evidence of that," McCain, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, told CNN.

Furthermore...

The 520-page report (911 Report) said investigators found no evidence that any "contacts ever developed into a collaborative operational relationship."

"Nor have we seen evidence indicating that Iraq cooperated with al Qaeda in developing or carrying out any attacks against the United States," it said.

President Bush said in September 2003 that "We've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11 [attacks]."

Nevertheless, Hayes insisted that the connection between al Qaeda and Saddam and "folks who work for him" has been seen "time and time again."

You know things are bad when even George Bush doesn’t support  the statement.

Since 2000 when Bush ‘won’ the White House, we have all seen some ‘incredible’ events and heard some ‘incredible’ statements.  Some of those were from George Bush and some were from his ‘Yes Men’.  One of his Yes Men was Robin Hayes.

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Robin Hayes has repeatedly missed the opportunity to question Donald Rumsfeld's bungled handling of Iraq.

Instead, Hayes has stayed silent about the mismanagement of the war. The Chairman of that Committee has expressed his "strong support" for Rumsfeld. [House Armed Services Committee release, 4/18/2006]

Robin Hayes has even said Rumsfeld is doing a "fabulous job." [Department of Defense transcript, 9/10/2004]

In every way and on every vote Robin Hayes has stuck with the Bush Administration and the Republicans.  Why shouldn’t he, he’s said to be one of  the most heavily invested in war efforts   According to the Kissell Campaign

The multi-millionaire Hayes owns millions in tobacco, pharmaceutical and oil stock, and votes accordingly with his President and portfolio. Hayes even owns as much as $37 million in defense related industries and makes even more money the longer the Iraq War continues.

Robin Hayes is said to be the 8th richest member of Congress, but let’s get back to Larry Kissell.  After all, Robin Hayes has had his day.  Now, a new day is dawning with Larry Kissell.  Larry Kissell is a man of integrity.  You can ‘feel’ it when you meet him just like you could when you met John Edwards.  In fact, the first time I met Larry Kissell was when John Edwards was at a rally to support Larry Kissell and I was there to cover the Edwards event.  I soon learned there were two candidates of great integrity there and two candidates that I could support.

Now that the campaign is in full swing, the Kissell campaign needs our help.  I recall last election just cringing when I heard the Robin Hayes ads on TV.  They were so dirty and obvious lies.  They didn’t even seem to have any intention of staying above board.

Robin Hayes has always had a big ‘war chest’ (what a coincidence) of funds to spend on  his campaign.  It is like David and Golieth except last time Golieth barely won and this is David’s round.  Please   donate to the Kissell campaign today and help Larry get Robin Hayes back home where he belongs.  Give whatever you can.  Those of you who can donate generously, please do so.  Those of you who have more limited funds, please give what you can.  And, those who can sign up to give monthly please do that too.  Every donation will be appreciated and Larry Kissell will be in there fighting for all of us, not just those of us in North Carolina.
